William “Bill” Snyder, 74, of Carlisle, PA passed away on April 27, 2025 in the UPMC West Shore Hospital. Born July 31, 1950, in Dubois, he was the son of the late Herbert D. “Spud” and Anna L. (Unis) Snyder.
Surviving is his wife, Joan (Andrews) Snyder of Carlisle; son, Andrew W. “Andy” and his wife, Ellianne J “Elle” (Ogden) Snyder of Jacksonville, FL; and sister, Linda A. Snyder of Jefferson Hills, PA.
After graduation from Redbank Valley High School, Bill attended the US Naval Academy and completed 30 years of active duty military service. He received his Masters degrees from Naval Post Graduate School and Naval War College. He served as Commanding Officer of several naval vessels, including the USS Jarrett and USS Cowpens. Bill was awarded the Legion of Merit (2 awards), Bronze Star with Combat ”V” (2 awards) and various other unit and campaign awards.
Bill was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and VFW. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fly fisherman.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited, PO Box 520, Carlisle, PA 17013 or Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs.
