William Cowell “Bill” Baker, 79, of Carlisle, PA, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, in his home. He was born on October 21, 1946, in Carlisle to the late William N. and Margaret (Cowell) Baker.

Bill was a United States Air Force veteran and a graduate of Penn State University. He retired from a career with the PA Department of Environmental Protection. Bill pursued many different hobbies and interests during his lifetime. He enjoyed bicycling and completed rides in several states. He was also an avid golfer. A craftsman and jack of all trades, Bill had a knack for fixing things and could always be counted on to help friends and family with projects around the house. He also volunteered his time for Dickinson Township water quality.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen (Cotter) Baker of Carlisle; four sons, Andrew (Elaine) of Pittsburgh, Brandon (Jess) of New Cumberland, Timothy (Megan) of Inverness, IL, and William (Kathleen) Baker of York; eleven grandchildren, Hayden, Emerson, Isaac, Nora, William “Liam,” James, Henry, Marlene, Thomas, Molly and Emmett; and his sister, Carol Krohn of Bloomsburg. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his siblings, Randy Baker and Margaret Drago.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, with Rev. Donald Bender officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
