Stanley B. Yancis, 91, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Wilkes- Barre, PA, passed away at Green Ridge Village Retirement Center in Newville, PA on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. He was born November 21, 1921 in Plymouth, PA to the late Joseph and Mary Bartoszewski Yancis.
He grew up on a farm and after graduation in 1942 from Lake Lehman High School, Stanley joined the Army, trained as a medic and served at Almagordo, New Mexico caring for returning injured soldiers from the South Pacific during World War II. While in NM, he met, and married his loving wife of 63 years, Reta Smith Yancis, who passed away in 2008.
After retirement from the Veteran’s Hospital of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Stanley took numerous college courses, studying English literature, poetry and oil painting; he wrote many short stories and poems with themes that focused on his early life on the farm. He loved nature and the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, gardening and wood working; however, Stanley’s favorite pastime was spending time with his grandsons.
Stanley is survived by his daughter, Karen Middleton and her husband Robert of Mechanicsburg; two sisters, Helen Malczyk and Mary March; and three grandsons, Michael and his wife Denise, Eric and his fiancée Christina, and Mark and his wife April and great grandson, Adam.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 9:30 AM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA. The Rev.
