Stan “Snidley” Nye of Newville, PA passed away on June 3rd, 2024, at Harrisburg Hospital. He was 68 years old. Stan was born on August 21, 1955, in Harrisburg to the late Harvey Nye and Gloria (Wonders).
Stan was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School in 1973. After high school Stan got a job serving at the Midway Inn. He found his true calling as a big rig truck driver a few years later. Stan retired from ABF in 2018 after 35 years of service and driving over 2.8 million miles accident free. When he wasn’t logging miles, Stan spent time on the beautiful homestead he shared with the love of his life, wife Mary “Poobie” Martin. Stan loved target shooting, driving his ranger around the property and playing shuttlecock with friends in the pool. He was known to many as The Greatest Shuttlecock Player of all time. Stan won 3 gold medals, 3 silvers and 2 bronzes over the years at the annual shuttlecock tournament he hosted.
Stan was a member of The White Circle, Carlisle Moose, Teamsters Local 776, and the NRA. He loved the Chicago Bears, watching NASCAR on Sundays, and listening to Tradio on the Radio while spending time outside and in his garage. Stan spent endless hours on his beloved lawnmower, maintaining the landscape around his home. He also loved riding his Harley.
Stan is survived by many friends and loved ones. He was married for 23 years to his adored wife, Poobie, also known as Mary Nye (Martin). Stan’s favorite daughter Amy Nye and her husband Russ Wolf resided in Phoenix, AZ. Stepson, Joseph Smith of Newville. Stan’s younger brother Steve Nye lives with his wife Kathy in Carlisle. Stan has 2 nephews, Zak and Brad Nye.
A visitation will be held Saturday, June 8th, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, with services starting at 2:00 PM at Hollinger Funeral Home, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065. Instead of flowers, Stan would appreciate donations being made to a charity of your choice.
