Samuel Glenn Harry

Carlisle

Samuel Glenn Harry, 81, of Newville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Laurel Lakes Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Chambersburg. He was born June 6, 1945, in Chambersburg, PA, to the late Russel and Mabel (Bock) Harry.

After graduating from Milton Hershey School, he proudly served two enlistments in the United States Army. Afterward, he worked for the federal government in HVAC and housing inspection and retired after many years of service from Carlisle Barracks. Glenn followed in the footsteps of his brother Fred by obtaining his auctioneer license, which remained a lifelong passion. He was always happy to oblige anyone’s request to demonstrate his auctioneering skills, doing so with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. Through Glenn's involvement in auctions and his association with various fire companies, he developed a close association with the Amish and Mennonites and eventually started a taxi & hauling business that mostly served those communities. Always civic-minded, he also volunteered at local fire companies, fire police, and with the borough of Newville. For a short time, he was a member and chaplain of the American Legion in Amberson, PA. After leaving the Army, he played intramural softball and football on various teams, but his favorite hobby was 410 sprint car racing, and he eventually sponsored Rick Lafferty Racing.

He is survived by his daughter, Stacey (Jason) Hughes of Carlisle, and grandson, Adam. In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his siblings, Raymond, Clifford, Fred, and Vivian.

The family will announce service details once they are finalized. Hollinger Funeral Home is handling the arrangements, and you may share condolences at HollingerFuneralHome.com.
