Russell W. Schmid

Russell W. Schmid, 68, of Gardners, PA, passed away on June 16, 2024, at his home. He was born April 21, 1956, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to the late Arthur and Eleanore (Leskanic) Schmid.

Russ was a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School. He worked for PPG Industries/Vitro in Mt Holly Springs and retired after 43 years of service as a supervisor. He also owned/operated his own carpet business. Russ was a member of Suits Us Hunting Camp in Tioga County and the Mt. Holly Fish and Game. In his spare time, he loved taking trips to the cabin to hunt, and go fishing with his son, William. Later in life, Russ enjoyed raising cattle and pigs with his father-in-law, the late Adam L. Bream.

Surviving is his loving wife of 17 years, Heather (Bream) Schmid of Gardners; children, Shannon Walko (Matt) of Mechanicsburg, Shane Schmid (Jean) of Chambersburg, Matthew R. Schmid (Ellen) of York, and William Schmid of Gardners; grandchildren, Adora, Marcus, and Lukas; siblings, Joanne Hershey of Chambersburg, Albert Schmid of Lancaster, Barbara Schmid of Lancaster, Dorothy Forsythe (Terry) of Falling Waters, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his second wife, Kelly (Conroy) Schmid; and nephew, Albert A. Schmid.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, July 12, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the Mt. Holly Springs Church of God, 602 McLand Drive, Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with Pastor Dan Murray officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY, 10306.
