Romaine Harman

Romaine Anna (Books) Harman, 86, of McAlisterville, formerly of Mt. Holly Springs, passed away at 7:15 AM on Monday, October 21, 2013, at Brookline Manor, Mifflintown, PA.

She was born December 28, 1926 in Adams County and was the daughter of the late Walter V. Books and Mae A. (Divens) Books.

Romaine worked as a waitress in Carlisle when she was in high school and was a graduate of the class of 1945 Boiling Springs High School. She sang on the radio along with her dear friend when she was young.  Romaine worked at C. H. Masland and Sons, Carlisle and also at McCoy Brothers, Mt. Holly Springs.  She also worked at PPG Industries, Mt. Holly Springs and Forest Park Nursing Home, Carlisle.  Later in life, she worked as a private caregiver for several families in the Carlisle and Mt. Holly Springs area.

She was a member of Mt. Victory United Methodist Church, Gardners, for more than 50 years, where she was a Sunday school teacher.  She currently attended the Faith Community Church in McAlisterville.

Romaine enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, gardening, and reading.  She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Marlin L. Harman and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Gary Books and by three infant sisters, Martha, Marie, and Evelyn.

Romaine is survived by a sister, Marian Leer of York Springs, PA; her two children, Kathy A. Groninger and husband Edgar of McAlisterville, PA and Dennis M. Harman of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren, Alison M. Groninger Truitt and husband Beau of Enola, PA and Andrew M. Groninger of McAlisterville, PA.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 25, 2013, at 1:00 PM in the Hollinger Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. , Mt. Holly Springs with the Rev. David M. Barr, who had formerly ministered with the Billy Graham Organization, officiating.  A public viewing will be held from 12 Noon until 1:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will be in the Mt. Victory Cemetery, Gardners.
