New Cumberland

Robert "Bob" Eugene Axmacher, 95, a long-time resident of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to the late William and Violet Axmacher, Bob was a man of service and dedication. He served four years in the U.S. Navy in Naval Communications, stationed in Florida and Puerto Rico. Following his military service, he embarked on a long career with Western Electric and then Bell Telephone (now Verizon). Known for his efficiency and expertise, he traveled the East Coast extensively to provide technical support.

Shortly after moving from Pittsburgh to the Harrisburg area, Bob met and married his beloved wife, Arlene. Together, they raised two daughters, Diane and Nancy.

In his downtime, Bob and Arlene were avid travelers, visiting nearly every state in the U.S. A talented athlete, Bob participated in his company’s basketball league for many years as both a player and a coach, earning the nickname "Ax."

Bob lived a long, meaningful life and was a steadfast support for his family and friends. He was a dedicated member of Calvary United Methodist Church for over 40 years, serving in numerous volunteer roles.

In his later years, Bob became a staple of the Chapel Pointe community. He will be fondly remembered for his endless supply of “Dad jokes”, his affinity for coffee creamers, his passion for jigsaw puzzles, and his impressive power-walking abilities.

Bob leaves behind a legacy of love carried on by his daughter, Diane Harrison; sister Eleanor McMillen; grandson, Timothy Dunham (wife Kim); granddaughter, Adrian Stouffer (husband Jason); great-grandchildren, Alaina Dunham, Caden Dunham, Tyson Stouffer, and Dane Stouffer; sister-in-law, Josephine Stence and daughter-in-spirit, Cynthia Coldren.

He is reunited in peace by his loving wife, V. Arlene Axmacher; his daughter, Nancy J. Knowlton; his twin brother, Benny Axmacher; and his sister, Anna Marie Rolin.

The family of Robert Axmacher extends their most sincere gratitude to the staff of Chapel Pointe for their loving and compassionate care.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
