Richard Shank

Richard F. ”Whitey” Shank, 82, of Greenridge Village, Newville, PA and formerly from Mt. Holly Springs, PA passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013. He was born July 22, 1930 in York Springs, PA to the late Aaron and Alice E. Myers Shank and was the widower of the late Carrie Mae Walter Shank who died May 21, 1993.

Richard retired from AMP Inc. where he worked as a die repairman. He was in the Army National Guard at Fort Indiantown Gap. An avid reader and history lover, Richard especially enjoyed learning about the military, past battles and collected military memorabilia and antiques. As a lifelong learner, he was interested in astronomy, built his own telescope and then observed the rings of Saturn. Summer outings with his family included camping on the river and archeological digs for Indian artifacts. Richard also planted an extensive vegetable garden each year and liked trout fishing.

Surviving is his daughter, Brenda L. Boyer and husband Randy of Shade Gap, PA; his son, Richard A. Shank of Gunnison CO; four grandchildren, Heather, Hannah, Sarah and Parker Shank and one great grandchild, Elijah Oldenberg.

Services will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave, Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with the Rev. Daniel L. Dennis officiating. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
