Peter Them

February 8, 1952 — August 19, 2016

Peter Philip Them, 64, of Mt. Holly Springs, PA passed away at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center on August 19, 2016.  Pete was born on February 8, 1952 in New York, New York to Philip and Hendrika Them.

After moving his family to central Pennsylvania in the early 1990’s, Pete established and became the sole owner of Peter Them Builders.  He later purchased and renovated The Midway Inn.  Peter enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.  His greatest delight was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and devoted dog, Rusty.  Prior to his illness, Peter blessed his family, friends, neighbors – both known and unknown, with his limitless acts of generosity.  Peter lovingly shared his wealth, knowledge and talents to improve the lives of those in his community.

During the four years of his illness, Pete faced each set back with courage and determination.  He accepted the limitations of his new lifestyle by focusing on areas where he continued to excel.  Pete constantly updated everyone on world and community events, never failing to state his opinion.  While bedridden and sightless, Pete utilized his knowledge to direct the process of making saki wine for the groomsmen in his son Andrew’s wedding which he was determined to attend. On June 4, 2016, Pete attended the wedding in full camouflage – charming all those present.

Peter and his family extend their sincere gratitude for the village of people who have made the last years of Peter’s life as meaningful as the first.  Thanks to his family, friends, caretakers, neighbors, and doctors.

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Debra Sommer Them; three children, Alyssa and husband Brian Adams of Mechanicsburg, Andrew and wife Brittany Them of Carlisle and Jaclyn Them of Carlisle; and two grandsons, Aaron and Ashton Adams of Mechanicsburg.  He is also survived by his parents, Philip and Hendrika Them of Carlisle; a sister, Anne and husband Joseph Planchak of Virginia; nieces; nephews; cousins; and his dog, Rusty.
