Paul "Pete" Drew Whitten, 81, of Carlisle, PA, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, in the UPMC Carlisle Hospital. He was born May 22, 1945, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Victor E. and Betty K. (Bagrosky) Whitten. He was the widower of the love of his life, Shirley Ann (Giselman) Whitten in June of 2015.
Pete attended Boiling Springs High School and was a member of the 4H and played football for the Cumberland Colts. He worked at various jobs over the years, such as, All State Paving, Federal Equipment. Pete and Sheryl owned the PT Mountain Bar in Gardners from 1977 until March of 1990. He tended bar at numerous clubs in Carlisle and was a team lead and trainer for Excel. Pete was also a driver for L&L where he transported prisoners on work release.
Pete loved his family and especially loved going to his grandchildren's sporting events. He liked to hunt until he couldn't anymore and watch dirt track racing. Pete loved his motorcycles, shooting pool, and golfing. In 2023, he was in a horrific motorcycle accident that left him in severe constant pain, but he continued to push through the pain and not give up on his love of riding, shooting pool, and playing golf up until the very end. He was well known for his finesse with a pool stick and taught more friends to excel their pool skills than we could ever count. Pete traveled for years to Las Vegas to play in pool tournaments and was actively shooting pool in a local league. He loved to play golf with his best friend, Dawn Dewalt, and they played together in a golf league the night before his stroke. Pete was a member of numerous local clubs such as; Amvets Post 274 in Carlisle, American Legion Post 674 in Mt. Holly Springs, The American Legion Riders, The Carlisle Club, and was lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 1299 in Carlisle, Moose Lodge in Carlisle, and VFW Post 477.
Surviving are his children, Denise (Robert) Sgrignoli of Landisburg, PA, Paul Whitten II of Mt. Holly Springs, Ty J. (companion, Crystal Kendall) of Carlisle, and Jeff Nelson (Shelby) of Shermans Dale, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; siblings, John "Mike" Whitten (Terri) and Debra (Whitten) Arnsberger (Brian). In addition to his parents and wife, Shirley, Pete was preceded in death by his brother, Vic "Jr" Whitten and his wife Barb, as well as nephews, John and Keith Fitting.
We would like to extend a special thanks to Dawn Dewalt, as well as all of his pool league family for their love and support especially these last 3 years for keeping him active and sharing his life. Also, a heartfelt thanks to the Carlisle UPMC Emergency Room Department, the ICU staff, as well as the 2nd floor nursing staff. We would also like to say a thank you to Residential Hospice for their care for Pete. And most importantly for Pete's niece, Rachel, you are the healthcare advocate that every single family needs.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
