Nancy A. (Long) Hoover

Nancy A. (Long) Hoover, 90, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in her home with her loving family by her side. She was born August 17, 1934, in Northumberland County, to the late Charles F. and Flora O. (White) Long and was the widow of James “Commander” Hoover who passed away in November of 2012.

Nancy was a Trevorton High School graduate class of 1952. She retired from Woods Buick after 9 years of service as an office clerk and was a former employee of Shenandoah Floral for over 19 years.

Nancy was a loyal member of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg, where she was a member of the Bells of Praise Bell Choir. With her church, she also participated in various programs and activities, including communion steward, money counter, and greeter. She was also a member of the Mechanicsburg American Legion Auxiliary Post 109 in Mechanicsburg, and Order of the Eastern Star - Trio Chapter #544, and the Mechanicsburg VFW Auxiliary where she presided over the Jr. Girls Unit. She mentored many girls and even had one girl go on to become State President of the Junior Girls Unit.

Nancy enjoyed collecting lighthouses and loved bowling and golfing. She was a devoted wife and mother; her children were her greatest achievements.

Surviving are her two daughters, Cindy (David) Kern of Mechanicsburg and Linda (Robert) Baldwin of Harrisburg; grandsons, Robert E. Kern and Thomas W. (Megan) Johnson; four great grandchildren, Jayden Kern, Caleb Lyter, Nevaeh Johnson, and T.J Johnson; and siblings, James Long of Aurora, CO, Dora Billett of Tampa, FL, Robert (Lynda) Long of Muncy, PA, Paralee Murphy of Northumberland, and Bruce (Jean) Long of Herndon, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her siblings, Flora Mae (Flickie) Reigel, Charles Daniel Long, Helen Yeager, and Earl Long.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 5000 Simpson Ferry Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 with Pastor Jason Weirich officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church, Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs.
