Nancy Jean Knowlton, 66, of Carlisle, PA, passed away at her home on April 21, 2024. On November 5, 1957, Nancy was born in Harrisburg, PA to Robert E. Axmacher and V. Arlene (Zerbe) Axmacher.
In the face of life's challenges, Nancy was determined to create a better life for herself and her son. This journey began at Duquesne University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science. Fueled by her passion for learning, she pursued a Master of Business Administration at Penn State, graduating with honors (Summa Cum Laude) for both degrees. Leveraging her expertise as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), she began her career with the state of Pennsylvania before moving on to positions at Sprint, Highmark, and McKonly & Asbury. Additionally, she obtained certification from ISACA as an Information Systems Auditor.
Fondly referred to as “Jeaner” by many family members, Nancy was known for her kind, considerate, and loving spirit. In her free time, Nancy enjoyed visiting the beach, spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards with friends, and caring for her furry companions. Nancy was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Protective Order of Elks and she actively served on the board of Safe Harbour, a non-profit organization dedicated to combating homelessness in Cumberland County, PA.
Nancy leaves behind a loving family to honor her memory. This includes her devoted husband of 39 years, David Knowlton of Carlisle; father, Robert Axmacher of Carlisle; son, Timothy Dunham Jr. (Kimberly) of York Springs; grandchildren, Caden and Alaina; sister, Diane Harrison of New Cumberland; brothers-in-law, Steve Knowlton (Pam), Mike Knowlton (Sherry), and Denis (Coe) Kuehn; niece, Adrian Stouffer; and nephew, Josh Knowlton. She was predeceased by her mother (V. Arlene Axmacher) and son, Todd M. Knowlton.
