Nancy Barry

Nancy Meminger Barry, 87, of Cumberland Crossings, Carlisle passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013. She was born in Lancaster, PA to the late Margaret Snyder and Cyrus Hollinger Meminger and was the widow of Colonel Richard Shriver Barry who passed away in May of 2008 after 60 years of marriage.

A graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School and Hood College, Nancy then earned her elementary teaching credentials from Millersville College. During her teaching career, she taught in Lancaster and Bedford, PA, Durham, NC and also Norfolk, Arlington, Woodbridge and the Quantico Marine Base in VA. After her husband’s retirement from active duty, they settled in Bedford County where Nancy served as the president of the Bedford County Children & Youth Services Advisory Board, was a volunteer and served as president for the Bedford Chapter of the American Cancer Society, was president of the administrative board of the Everett United Methodist Church, was a member of the American Assoc. of University Women and tutored for the Bedford County Literacy Program.

Exemplifying a Christian life, she mirrored God’s love to her family and all she met. Always generous and welcoming, Nancy’s gracious and humble spirit enabled her to touch many lives; she instilled the best in every person who met her.

Nancy is survived two daughters, Karen M. Greguras and her husband Fred of CA and Diane C. Van Cura of TX and her husband Frederick; and her brother, James S. Meminger and his wife Sara of FL. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Nancy Wilkening and her husband Cory, Catherine Greguras, Bryan Van Cura and his wife Jamey and Patrick Van Cura; and one great granddaughter, Claire Wilkening.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:30 PM in the Hollinger Funeral Home, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA with Rev. Rich Bigelow officiating. Burial will be private in Greenwood Cemetery, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Crossings Benevolent Care Fund, 1 Longsdorf Way, Carlisle, Pa 17015.
