Lewis Speese

Lewis Elwood Speese, 81, of York Springs, PA, passed away February 17, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Harrisburg, PA on October 23, 1936 to the late Gilbert and Mildred (Uhland) Speese.

Lewis was a truck driver for Nationsway Transport and a member of the Teamster Local 776.  A graduate of Swatara High School, Class of 1955, he excelled in football, basketball and track and was a member of the Blonde Bombers Basketball Team.  Lewis loved being in the mountains, especially at the cabin he built. He enjoyed lounging by the pool with family, watching sports, hunting and grilling. Lewis lived a full life and enjoyed reflecting through stories he shared with those who would listen. Loved by many, he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Maryann (Esterline) Speese of York Springs; two daughters, Louann Speese-Stanley of Mechanicsburg and Lisa Speese of Dillsburg; two sons, Craig Speese and wife, Deborah of Gardners and John Speese of York Springs; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Gladys Ritter, and Arthur and Barry Speese. Lewis was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Conley, and Gilbert and Richard Speese

Services will be announced at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
