Leonard George Mortorff

February 14, 1949 — July 11, 2023

York Springs

Leonard George Mortorff, 74, of York Springs, passed away on July 11, 2023. He was born February 14, 1949, to the late George C. and Evelyn (Heller) Mortorff.

Leonard's life revolved around his faith and his love of Jesus Christ.  This love was evident in his love and care for his family and devotion to the church.  He was a lifetime member of the Uriah Community Church, where he was a servant and leader in so many capacities.  He was a Sunday School teacher, a board member and church representative at area conferences.  He worked the church's sound booth, and provided general maintenance of all types inside and outside the church and parsonage.  You could find him at almost any church event, sometimes dressed in costume to entertain the kids at VBS, or dressed as Joseph at their drive-through Nativity, or wearing a uniform at the Memorial Day service. He enjoyed life and had so many pursuits, both intellectually and in play.  He loved fast cars, especially red, flashy convertibles.  An avid motorcyclist since his youth, Leonard belonged to the Turnpike Ramblers of Carlisle motorcycle club and traveled around the country and even to Canada with Ginny via bike.  He and Ginny liked to travel, and explored many destinations together.  His hobbies included learning and playing multiple string instruments, listening to music, creating stained glass arts, woodworking, and oil painting.  Kids and grandkids loved that he was the only Pappy around that could rock Hawaiian shirts and red high-top Converse sneakers like he did!  He retired from Carlisle SynTec after 38 years of service as a maintenance manager.

His first marriage was to Robin Burns, and they remained good friends after the marriage, attending family events and holiday get-togethers.

Surviving is his loving wife of 31 years, Ginny Mortorff; children, Jeff (Jennifer) Miles of East Berlin, Michele (Eric) Rollason of Carlisle, and Carrie (Tom) Boyd of Mechanicsburg; siblings, Joyce (William) Sheaffer, Loren (Ginger) Mortorff, and Eugene (Linda) Mortorff,; and grandchildren, Hailey (Dylan) LaPlante, Holden Smith, Kyra Montgomery, Anne Miles, Alena Montgomery, Evan Miles, Genesis Boyd, JD Rollason, and Jacob Rollason. Leonard was preceded in death by his son, Justin Mortorff and sibling, Sharon (Ken) Treaster.
