Kathleen May Thomas Crum, 92, formerly of Mt. Holly Springs, PA passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Thornwald Home in Carlisle, PA. Born February 23, 1924 in Biglerville, PA to the late William and Katie Hawkins Thomas and she was the widow of Glenn M. Crum.
Katie worked for Musselman Canning Co. in Biglerville, C.H. Masland Co. making tarps for army trucks during World War II , Standard Piezo Crystal Co in Carlisle; Blough-Wagner Sewing Co. and McCoy Electronics both in Mt Holly Springs and retired from Book of the Month Club in Mechanicsburg. Katie lived in Mt. Holly Springs since 1943. She was a member of the Mt Holly Springs United Methodist Church where she served three years on the building committee during the planning and construction of the new building on Butler Street. Katie also served on many committees, including fund raisers and church dinners. She was also active as a troop leader for the girl scouts and the ladies auxiliary of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the fire department. For over 25 years Katie participated in both social and competitive bowling in various cities in the U.S. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.
Katie is survived by her brothers, Earl Thomas (Joanne) of Gaithersburg, MD, Roy Thomas (Jean) of Gettysburg; a sister, Betty Shyrock (Robert) of Indiana; and seven nephews and three nieces. She was preceded in death by two infant brothers.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church, 202 West Butler Street, Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065with the Rev. Edward B. Alwine officiating. Burial will be held in the Mt Holly Springs Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church.
