John James McGowan

John James McGowan, 81, of Shippensburg, PA, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, in the Laurel Lakes Wellness Center in Chambersburg. He was born August 1, 1944, in Newville to the late Walter and Mary Ruth (Lay) McGowan.

John served in the United States Army and Navy. He then worked as a stone mason and drywaller and loved what he did. John was a member of the Blue Mountain Brethren in Christ Church in Newburg, PA. He loved people and was always friendly with others. John had a huge heart and loved all.

Surviving is his wife, Micaela (Salinas) McGowan; daughter, Maria McGowan of Texas; four grandchildren, Oscar, Fatima, Ian, and Fabro; one great grandchildren, Camila; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruth Coyle, Doris Robinson, Paul McGowan, and Joan Kuntz.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs.
