John Francis (Jack) Hawbaker Jr., 92, passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 27, 2026, at Country Meadows Retirement Communities in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
He was born in Harrisburg, Pa., on October 8, 1933, to the late John and Esther (Ehling) Hawbaker and moved with his family to Mt. Holly Springs at the age of 12.
There Jack met his future wife, Edna (Leib), who cheered him on at his many sporting events, including football, baseball, track, and basketball. They married in 1951, immediately after which Jack was drafted into the Army. That led them to Alabama and Georgia, where he served until 1953.
The couple then settled in Carlisle, Pa., where Jack was employed by C.H. Masland & Sons (and its later owners) for more than 40 years as a corporate accountant. In 1969, with a growing family, they built one of the first houses in the Pine Road Heights development in Mt. Holly Springs. It was the family home for the next 56 years, until Jack moved to Mechanicsburg in 2025.
Jack served on the board of the Amelia Givin Library and the South Middleton Township Sewer Authority. For many years, he was secretary-treasurer of the Carlisle Swim Club. He enjoyed bicycling, golfing, running (completing his first of several marathons in his 50s), and spending time in the spring and fall with Edna walking the sands of Myrtle Beach, SC.
He is survived by his daughters Lisa Mason (Jeff) of Mechanicsburg and Jennifer Florer (Michael) of Gettysburg, sister Bertha Hawbaker of Enola, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by Edna, his wife of 69 years; his son, Dayn; and his brother, Craig.
To honor Jack’s wishes, there will be no public service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Amelia Givin Library, www.cumberlandcountylibraries.org/AME.
Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs.
