Johanna Catherine (Saganic) Sporcic, 87, formerly of Mt. Holly Springs, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 13 at the Baptist Nursing Home in Pittsburgh, PA after a fifteen plus year battle with dementia. She was born Oct. 19, 1925 in Etna, PA to the late Andrew and Johanna (Lucas) Saganic, and her step mother was the late Dominica (Stanic) Saganic.
Johanna married her loving husband Edward Sporcic on July 2, 1949 at All Saints Church in Etna, PA. In her early years, she worked at the former Gimbel’s department store in downtown Pittsburgh and moved to Mt. Holly Springs in 1972. She was a homemaker and a caring and loving mother to her sons. As a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Carlisle, Johanna was a former member of both the regular and resurrection funeral mass choirs. In May, 2011 she returned to Pittsburgh.
She was the beloved wife of Edward J. of Pittsburgh, PA; loving mother of Edward R. of Houston, TX, and Robert A. (Arlene) Sporcic of Pittsburgh; and loving grandmother of Robert Matthew and Maria Ann. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Virginia (Palajsa) Kwence and was preceded in death by grandson, Mark Andrew and her sister, Catherine Palajsa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 17 at 10:00 AM in the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, with the Very Reverend William C. Forrey, V.F. as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, N. Middleton Twp. A viewing will be held in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs on Sunday, Dec. 16 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Building Fund.
