Janet M. Smith

Janet M Smith, 88, of Gardners, PA, passed away on April 14, 2026, at her residence. She was born on December 15, 1937, in Gettysburg, PA, to the late Archie and Marie (Baumgardner) Starner and was the widow of Robert L. Smith, who passed away November 18, 2015.

Janet was a life member of Mt. Victory United Methodist Church, Gardners. Her favorite pastimes include mowing grass on her John Deere, sometimes up to three times a week, breakfast and lunches with friends, playing slot machines, Bingo while her husband, Robert was alive, and driving to Hanover for a hot dog and fries. Janet would religiously watch game shows on the television and in her younger years read. Her favorite was, however, spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, Peggy Shaub (Keith) of Shippensburg, Harry Smith (Cynthia) of Gardners, and Harper Smith (Sandra) of Gardners; grandchildren, Benjamin Garman, Mathew Smith (Erika), Christopher Smith (companion, Michele), Adrienne Hess (Ryan), and Melissa Smith (Alex); 8 great grandchildren; and brother, Paul Starner of Mt. Holly Springs. In addition to her husband and parents, Janet was preceded in death by her siblings, Joyce, Shirley, Leroy and Rodney.

Services will be announced at a later date and will be held in the Mt. Victory United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Victory Church Cemetery. Per Janet’s request, please dress casually in what you feel most comfortable wearing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O.
