James E. Hoover, 83, of Enola, PA, passed away August 28, 2025, at his residence. He was born October 16, 1941, in Carlisle, to the late Selden P. Hoover and H. Romaine “Skip” Sheaffer. James was the widower of Nancy M. Hoover, who passed away November 9, 2022.
James retired from the Postal Service where he worked as a postal carrier. He was a member of the Camp Hill Church of God and president of the Capitol Area Beekeeper Association. James enjoyed spending time with his neighbors, baking, especially pies for holiday gatherings, and painting pottery. However, his favorite past times were gardening, spending time with his cat Jackie, and attending his two great-grandsons’ sporting events.
Surviving are his grandchildren, Tara Villarreal (Shawn) of York Haven and Lucas Hall-Hoover (Michelle) of Dover; great-grandchildren, Tanner and Shane Villarreal and Landon Hall-Hoover; and three brothers, Edward “Ed” Hoover of Apollo, Linwood “Lin” Hoover (Donna Lee) of Mechanicsburg, Richard “Rich” Hoover (Darleen) of Selinsgrove and several nephews and one niece. In addition to his parents and wife, James was preceded in death by his children, David Griffith, Scott and Duane Hoover; and his sister-in-law, Rose Eileen.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery, 2 Watts St., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
