Irini "Irene" N. Kolokithas

September 20, 1940 — January 2, 2024

Mt. Holly Springs

Irini “Irene” Nikolaos Kolokithas, 83, of Mt. Holly Springs, PA, passed away on January 2, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 20, 1940, in Mesokomi, Evrytania, Greece to the late Nikolos and Eleni (Skouras) Karathanasis.

Irini immigrated to the U.S. in the late 1960s, married in 1970, and raised two wonderful sons.  She began her career as a seamstress before spending nearly 40 years in a few, iconic local kitchens.  She began at the Deer Lodge and then moved to T. Jimmy’s, both in Mt. Holly Springs, before retiring from the Hamilton Restaurant in Carlisle.

Irini was a pious and humble member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camp Hill, PA. Affectionately known as YiaYia (Grandma in Greek) to everyone, she had several passions in her life-- her faith, her grandchildren, and her bountiful gardens.  Irini was an avid gardener whose many plants live on in homes around the mid-Atlantic and whose produce has fed many mouths.  YiaYia’s true loves were her grandchildren.  There was nothing she would not do for them and she could not get enough time with them, especially in her final days.

Surviving Irini is her loving husband of 53 years, Panagiotis “Pete” S. Kolokithas of Mt. Holly Springs, PA; son, Sotirios “Sam” P. Kolokithas (Janet) of Mechanicsburg, PA; grandchildren, Sophia & Panagiotis Kolokithas, and Panagiotis N. Georgopanos (born Panayioti N. Kolokithas) of Wynnewood, PA. In addition to her parents and all her many siblings, Irini was preceded in death by her cherished son, Nikolaos “Nick” P. Kolokithas (Stephanie, remarried to Spiros).

Visitation services will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 6th, 2024 followed by 12pm funeral services at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill, PA 17011.  Burial services will ensue at 2pm at Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camp Hill, PA.
