Irene Rene Bear

Irene Rene Bear, 89, of Carlisle, PA, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in the Forest Park Nursing Home. She was born January 4, 1934, in New Oxford, to the late Frank J. and Margaret (Lowe) Smith.

Irene worked for the Carlisle Hospital as an LPN where she retired after 40 years. She was a former employee of Elks Lodge, Post 578 in Carlisle. She was a member of the VFW, Post 477 in Carlisle. Irene was known for making wonderful cheesecake and delivering them to many restaurants that bought them. In her spare time, she also enjoyed bowling, which she was very good at. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, riding her Harley Davidson, and loved her Boston Terrier, Boo-Boo.

Surviving is her companion, James E. Fishel of Carlisle; son, Larry D. (Betty) Milhimes of New Oxford; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Bear; children, Ronald L. Milhimes and Janet I. Gladfelter; and seven brothers and four sisters.
