Hughie Preston Chavis, Jr., 91, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away on April 16, 2024, in the Mercy House, Chambersburg. He was born September 7, 1932, in North Carolina to the late Hughie and Fodie (Bell) Chavis, Jr. He was the widower of Fotoula Chavis who passed away in September of 2021.
Hughie was a United States Army Veteran, with over 20 years of service. He was a member of the Cascade American Legion Post 239 in Maryland.
He is survived by his children, Hughie P. Chavis III of Wichita, Kansas, Christos Chavis of Waynesboro, and Triada Chavis of Waynesboro; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Annie May Hammonds, and Louise Nobles; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Chavis. In addition to his parents and wife, Hughie was preceded in death by his brother, Herman Chavis.
A Reception of the Body at the Pillars of Orthodoxy Church, 350 W. Old York Road, Carlisle, PA, will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 4:00 PM. A burial service will be held Friday, April 19, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Pillars of Orthodoxy Church with Father Mark Beesley officiating. Burial will follow directly after.
