Gregory A. Bretzman, 58, of Mt. Holly Springs, PA passed away on Tuesday June 23rd at home surrounded by his loving family, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Carlisle on November 5, 1961 to Ivan R. and Judith A. (Long) Bretzman of Mt. Holly Springs.
Greg was a graduate of Carlisle High School, class of 1981. He worked as a mechanic at the family business, Bretzman's Garage, located in Mt. Holly Springs. He previously worked part time as a firefighter at the Carlisle Barracks and drove for Carlisle Fire and Rescue. His fire company memberships included Carlisle, Huntsdale, Bendersville and Mt. Holly Springs. Greg was a highly decorated firefighter, whose most recent position was the Dickinson Township Fire Chief. He was a member of Mt. Holly Springs American Legion Post 674. He loved to rebuild antique fire trucks and his most prized possession was his 1972 Seagrave Engine. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his childhood sweetheart, Christine M. (Mummert) Bretzman; his children, Holly M. Myers (Zachary) of Mt. Holly Springs and Justin “Bubba” Bretzman (Ashley) of Carlisle; grandchildren, Harper, Hudson and Hendrix Bretzman, all of Carlisle and Willow "Wilbur" Myers of Mt. Holly Springs. Also surviving is his brother, Daniel Bretzman of Mt. Holly Springs. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Bretzman.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM in the St. Patrick Church Parish Activity Center, 85 Marsh Dr., Carlisle, PA 17015 with Rev. Daniel Murray and Rev. Richard L. Reese officiating. Viewings will be held Friday, June 26, 2020 at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM in the Hollinger Funeral Home, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 and one hour prior to the service. A gathering will be held at Citizen's Fire Co. No. 1, 100 Chestnut St., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Greg's honor to National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, P. O. Box 498, Emmitsburg, MD 21727 or Penn State Cancer Institute, 400 University Dr., Hershey, PA 17033.
