Glenn Smith Crum, (1937-2023) 85, a resident at Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away June 8, 2023. He was born in Eshcol, Perry County, on November 2, 1937, to the late John E. and Floy S. (Smith) Crum.
Glenn was a graduate of Green Park Union High School, class of 1955, and Elizabethtown College, class of 1959. While at Elizabethtown College, he was a pitcher on the varsity baseball team. He also played In the Perry-Juniata and Harrisburg City Twilight sandlot leagues. He was a little league, pre-teener, and legion baseball coach for several years. Glenn started Club Pack 167 at Middlesex and was involved with scouting for several years.
After graduating from college, he was a math teacher in the Central Dauphin School District and at the Milton Hershey School. After leaving the teaching profession, he worked for the Navy at Mechanicsburg (FMSO) for 33 years. After retiring from there, he worked for 6 years for Computer Sciences Corporation. He was a member of the Carlisle First Church of God, where he was president of the Senior Life Fellowship (Jolly Olde Timers) and sang in the senior choir. He also sang in the men’s chorus at Bethany Village.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Helen Marguerite (Marge) Dum, married on July 25, 1959, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Elliotsburg, PA. His two children, Michael (Sharon) Crum and Karen (Raymond) Kreiser; four grandchildren, Christopher (Tabby) Crum, Lauren (Matt) Skrenchuk, Matthew Kreiser, and Robin (Bryan) Frye; three great grandchildren, Sophia, and Joanna Skrenchuk, and Knox Crum; and sister, Alice Fritz.
The family will welcome friends and relatives to a memorial service on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Carlisle First Church of God, 705 Glendale St, Carlisle, PA, 17013. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church, Carlisle First Church of God, or Asbury Benevolent Care Fund, 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
