Eugene "Gene" Sentiwany

Eugene R. “Gene” Sentiwany, 81, formerly of South 80 ^th Street in Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2012, at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center with his family at his side.

He was born on November 26, 1930, in Hazelton, Luzerne County, PA and was the son of the late Rudolf and Mary (Barron) Sentiwany. On October 11, 1958, he married Josephine Holden, who survives, and his death ends 54 years of marriage.

Gene was a 1948 graduate of Weatherly High School and a veteran of the U.S. Airforce, where he served as an aerial photographer during the Korean War. After serving his country, Gene attended the Penn State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts in 1957.

He was an avid gardener, Penn State and Oakland Athletics fan, Gene also enjoyed swimming, tennis, playing cards and the horses at Penn National.  He was an ardent reader and loved music.  Gene taught himself to speak fluent German.  He was former member of the American Legion Post #272 in Harrisburg, and the Mechanicsburg Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Bridget Aunkst of Mount Holly Springs and Natasha Sentiwany of Harrisburg; a son, Roger Sentiwany of Mechanicsburg; three grandchildren, Steven Romanoski, Alison Aunkst and Katlin Aunkst; and a brother, Robert Sentiwany of Wyoming, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven and his brother John “Jackie” Sentiwany.

Memorial services and interment will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in his honor may be sent to Hospice of Central PA, 17 East High St., Carlisle, PA 17013.  Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA.
