Eleanor Green

Eleanor “Polly” Higgins Green, 92, of Carlisle, PA passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 20, 2017.  She was born December 16, 1924 in Hartford, CT to the late Mortimer Lawrence Johnson and Eleanor Marimon Higgins (nee Smith).  She was the widow of James W. Green MD, who passed away in 1989.

She was a graduate of Western Maryland College and retired from Carlisle High School, where she worked as a secretary.  Polly was a member of Letort United Methodist Church, where she had served as Treasurer and a member of the Administrative Council.  She enjoyed volunteering at many church functions, as well as driving for Safe Harbor, and delivering books for the Bosler Library.  Polly spent many years with good friends in her Bridge club, enjoyed needlepoint and crossword puzzles, traveling, her precious feline friends, and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

Polly is survived by three sons, Michael Patrick Green and wife, Kathy of Mechanicsburg, Timothy David Green of Maine, and James William Green, Jr. of Carlisle; three grandchildren, Terri Kenski and husband, Keith of Carlisle, Christopher Green and wife Danielle of Mechanicsburg, and Melissa West and husband, Dave of Maine; and a brother Robert Preston Higgins and wife, Viola of Virginia.  She is preceded in death by her sister Frances Higgins Robinson, and two brothers, Mortimer Johnson “Bud” Higgins, and Samuel Smith Higgins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Letort United Methodist Church, 1198 Claremont Road, Carlisle, PA, 17015 with Pastor Therese Finney officiating.  The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 10:00 AM.  Burial will be in the Letort Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Letort United Methodist Church.
