Donald Paul Osborne, 84, of Newville, PA, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in the Swaim Nursing Center at Green Ridge Village. He was born on December 15, 1941, in Perth Amboy, NJ, to the late Burleigh H. and Mary E. Osborne. He was raised in Metuchen, NJ, a small town in Edison Township.
Don went on to Rider College in Trenton, NJ, and earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce in 1964. He joined the United States Navy from 1965-1969 and was assigned to the U.S.S Wasp, an aircraft carrier specializing in Anti-Submarine Warfare in the Atlantic Fleet. The wasp was stationed at Pensacola, FL. After completing his service, Don returned to New Jersey and worked as a purchasing agent for several cosmetic companies including Revlon and Cosmair (L’Oréal).
Don and Ruth Murtorff Osborne were married December 21, 1974, and then lived in Mansquan, New Jersey from 1974 to 2005. Manasquan was a beach town along the New Jersey shore. Don and Ruth enjoyed taking their boat out along the Jersey Shore in the evenings after work. They remained in Manasquan, NJ, until 2005 when they moved to their new home in Carlisle to be closer to family. He was always interested in cars, and purchased antique cars and restored them. They both enjoyed going on many car rallies with friends. Don and Ruth spent 20 happy years in their home in Carlisle until December 18, 2025, when they chose to scale down and moved to their cottage at 61 Spruce Circle in Green Ridge Village.
Surviving is his wife, Ruth (Murtoff) Osborne of Newville.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the First Lutheran Evangelical Church, 21 S Bedford St, Carlisle, PA 17013 with Pastor Lisa M. Leber officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA, Donate to the ASPCA | Help Animals | Make a Gift | ASPCA, or Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, Donate with PayPal Giving Fund.
