Donald Neff

July 1, 1937 — April 13, 2020

Donald E. Neff, 82, passed away Monday, April 13, 2020 in Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital.  Born July 1, 1937 to the late Elmer B. and Dorothy (Franklin) Neff, he is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sondra (Taylor) Neff of Gardners, PA.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Tracy Bricker (Mark) of Gardners, PA and Eric T. Neff of Cosa Mesa, CA. Donald was predeceased by his siblings, Virginia Yeingst and James, Robert, Elmer, Searight, Vernon, Maynard, and Kenneth Neff.

Donald grew up in Mt. Holly Springs, PA. He was an avid outdoorsman. As a young boy he would fish all of the local streams and ponds and became an avid fisherman. He used to say that he knew where all of the good fishing holes were on Mountain Creek. When he was younger, he also enjoyed hunting and took many trips throughout Pennsylvania and the western states. One of his favorite sports was golf. He loved playing and watching it. He played for many years and became very good at it. He used to say he would play golf every day if he could and he usually did. He was a 1955 Carlisle High School graduate. While in high school he traveled with his older brother, Searight, and they camped for an entire summer in the National Parks out west. He had many stories to tell of their adventures!

He met his wife, Sondra, while she was working at her family's business, The Twirly Top, in Hunter's Run. He then joined and served three years in the U.S. Army. While in the Army he became a pitcher for one of the Army baseball teams and played while in Okinawa, Japan. When he returned home he got a job working at Kimberly Clark Paper Mill in Mt. Holly Springs, PA and worked there for over 25 years. Once the mill closed, he got his real estate license and worked as an agent for R. L. Simons. After retiring, Donald loved to feed the birds, squirrels and deer in his backyard and take drives in the country. An animal lover, he doted on his dog Willie, and his two cats, Jenny and Sammy.

He was very much loved and will be missed by his family!

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Speranza Animal Rescue, 1216 Brandt Rd. Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
