Dayn Alan Hawbaker, 69, of Newville, PA, beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 9, 2025.
He was born February 18, 1956, in Carlisle to John (Jack) and Edna (Leib) Hawbaker. He frequently shared stories about his childhood growing up in Carlisle across from the fairgrounds and then Mount Holly Springs, where he moved with his family as a young teen.
After graduating from Boiling Springs High School in 1974, Dayn started work at PPG in Mt. Holly Springs. He later worked at C.H. Masland & Sons and in flooring at Lowes and owned his own delivery service, Shadowfax Express. Employers recognized his dedication, innovation, and pride in jobs well done with frequent commendations.
Dayn's love of music was legendary among his friends and family, beginning with piano lessons as a young boy and then playing bass with local bands and a worship team as an adult. All who worked with him marveled at his abilities as a sound engineer. Dayn was gifted with an extraordinary ability to fix things, from lawn mowers to cars and elaborate equipment where he worked.
Dayn had a good and loving heart, ready to help anyone at a moment's notice. For many years he was a full-time caregiver for his friend Ron, a Vietnam veteran.
Dayn was a voracious reader on subjects ranging from physics and astronomy to religion. Spirituality was an important part of his life, and he worshipped at the Eagle Ridge Biker Church in Carlisle, Pa.
Dayn is survived by his father, John Hawbaker of Mt. Holly Springs, sisters Jennifer Florer (Mike) of Gettysburg and Lisa Mason (Jeff) of Mechanicsburg, daughter Sarah of Philadelphia, son Neil (Claire) and grandson Jack of Baltimore, and former wife, Anne, of Mt. Holly Springs.
Family and friends will celebrate Dayn in a memorial service on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the Barnitz Church, 23 Church Lane, Carlisle. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:30 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eagle Ridge Biker Church, P.O Box 25, Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs.
