Anne Gero, PhD of Carlisle, Pennsylvania died 01/11/2026 at the age of 85. She passed peacefully with family by her side. The sun was streaming into the room; music was playing while Tyler the cat was keeping her company.
Anne is a native of Upper Michigan, the daughter of Dorinda Emy Phidelia Pifke Warshawsky and Reuben Warshawsky. Her sister, Natalie Hurtado, McAllen Texas, Neice, Laurie Bitters, husband Kelly, Orlando, FL, Nephew, Jeff Erickson, wife, Deya, Kauai, HI.
Anne has many family members. Her beloved spouse Don Klinedinst (deceased June 6, 2024) and their blended family.
She is survived by daughters and their families Monique Lingle, husband Ken, Steamboat Springs, CO and daughter, Danielle, Kalispell, MT, son Benjamin, Laramie, WY. Michelle McNamara, husband Blair, sons Jack, Grant, Ryan, daughter Mia of Steamboat Springs, CO.
Their blended family, Stepson, Eric Klinedinst, wife Rosemary, daughter, Harper, son Murdoch, Carlisle, PA. Eric held a special place in her heart from age 9 when she and Don married. Stepdaughter Chris Firestone, husband Doug, grandson Dane, Honey Grove, PA. Stepdaughter Joy Cove, husband Chris, sons Ryan and Jack, Longmeadow, MA.
Stepdaughter Donna Veeder, husband Gary, daughter Sera, son Sam, Urbandale, IA.
Mary Andrus is a chosen sister. Their friendship began over 50 years ago when Mary was a student at the University of Iowa and Anne was her professor.
Many friends have also become like “family”. Betz Clever, Kim Truckenmiller, Barbara Kohutiak, Ellen Hughes, Bee Miller, Wendy Gebb, Bob Hewitt along with many other dear friends.
Anne was a loving mother, an enthusiastic grandmother, a loyal and caring friend, an excellent teacher, and a passionate feminist. She often said she lived her life fully and never had any regrets.
Lifetime memories include time in the backyard pool and beach, reading, trips to museums, botanical gardens, cultural events, and numerous artistic experiences.
Some of the activities that she enjoyed were photography, reading, gardening, teaching, her Unitarian Universalist affiliation and extensive world-wide travel.
Education was an important part of Anne’s life. She held both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Marycrest College in Davenport, IA and a Doctorate from the University of Iowa.
Anne was recognized as a highly successful and widely acclaimed University level professor and active and impactful leader on the Shippensburg University Campus.
Many awards have been presented to Anne over the years. The Gero Award is presented annually by the Women’s center at Shippensburg University.
Anne was interested in many things. She was a champion for all people. Her advocacy for women’s rights and gerontological studies are legendary.
While she valued professional recognition, the most important accolades were from her family. She treasured her grandchildren’s descriptions of her as “ Mom Mom” or “Grannie Annie” as caring, creative and funny.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 14th at 2pm at the Unitarian Universalists of the Cumberland Valley, 2 Forge Road, Boiling Springs, PA 17007 with a catered meal to follow. Cards may be sent to 100 Linn Drive, Carlisle, PA 17013.
