Mr. Burgess's Family, I want to express sincere sympathy to you. I had your father for Biology in seventh grade at Mechanicsburg Junior High School. I remember I learned a lot from him that year. He left a lasting impression on me. I also remember him, being a baseball fan. He had team flags and pictures in the class room. I still have an autograph book he signed for me at the end of the school year. He signed it, "It has been real." I knew what he meant, even if no one else did. From what I have read, he had a "real" life. I hope as I have, you will remember and think often of the good memories you have had with him. Peace be with all of your family members. Dear Fred, I wanted to extend my condolences to you and the rest of your family. Your Dad taught most of my brothers and sisters as well as myself. I remember being worried about having him as a teacher because my older brothers said when they had him, they swore he had eyes in the back of his head. They told me he could be writing in the chalkboard and at the same time, call out the names of the kids who were misbehaving behind him. Turns out, he just knew who the troublemakers were (oftentimes, my brothers and their friends) and didn’t need to look around. I personally enjoyed his class. Anyway, I wanted you to know I am thinking of you during this difficult time.

Sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Burgess. He was my geography/science teacher way back in the 50's. I remember him as a tough teacher with standards, rough persona but a teddy bear, and a genuinely nice man who was fair to all. I also remember his very distinct walk. Clearly he made an impression or I would not have been able to share these memories. May he rest in peace. Sincerely, Cindy Alleman -MHS, 1962
