Mary "Joan" Sheaffer

Mary "Joan" Blemler Sheaffer, a long time resident of Boiling Springs, PA was reunited in death with her beloved husband, William Sheaffer on April 28, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones at her residence in Orrstown, PA.  She was born July 12, 1931 in Craighead, PA to the late Frank Bready and Myrtle Mae Weaver Blemler and was the widow of William E. Sheaffer who passed away May 8, 2011.

Joan graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1949. She began working for the South Middleton School District as a senior and then served as their business manager from 1949 until 1985. A devoted member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Joan served as secretary to the church Administrative Council, participated in the United Methodist Women, and was a member of the Board of Trustees.

She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Robert A. Jr.) Weigle of Orrstown; two granddaughters, Jennifer M. (Charles E.) Merriman of Cascade, MD and their children, Jacob Wm., Micaela M. and Evelyn G.  and Jessica A. (Daniel) Merriman of Orrstown and  their children, Tristin R. and James D. Weigle. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Anna Sheaffer, a brother-in-law, Elmer Fraker, and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Blemler and his wife Nancy; and a sister, Carolyn Fraker.

A memorial  service will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. David Reed officiating in the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Road, Carlisle, PA 17015.There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Churchtown, PA at the convenience of the family.
