Justine Shields

Justine E Shields, 96, of Gettysburg PA passed away peacefully on April 11th, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Carlisle on May 7th, 1921 to the late John and Ruth Sanders Talarico. The Talaricos emigrated from Calabria, Italy.

Justine graduated from Old Forge High School in 1939. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked many years at the Gettysburg Hospital, rode ambulance, and later retired at the age of 74 from the Lutheran Home Social Services.

She is survived by grandchildren Erica of Pittsburgh, Aaron (Kat) of Keene, New Hampshire and Brian of Hanover. Also survived by daughter-in-law Anna of Hanover, great-grandson Lukas, and Sara (Jay) of Illinois who was like a granddaughter.  Many other surviving close friends and family not named here.

Justine was predeceased by her husband Edward (1981) and children Scott (2016) and Eric (2009).  The Shields were faithful members of St. James Lutheran Church, having joined in 1948.

She was called Gram by many. We will miss her laughter, her smile and especially her homemade pies. She loved her flower garden, appreciated beautiful jewelry, and enjoyed sharing stories and chatting with friends and family. Justine was a wealth of knowledge and made a deep impact on everyone she met. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and had many friends from all over. She was a special woman and will be missed so very much- we love you Gram!

Appreciation to Cross Keys, Hanover VNA & Hospice for exceptional care. Justine was not just a patient, but a very loved and cherished woman. You encouraged her love of baking right up until the end: You laughed together, listened to her, supported her, and you became her trusted caregivers and close friends. Thank You!

A church service will be held Sunday April 22nd, 2018 at 5 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg. Fellowship and food to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Adams County SPCA. Flowers are also welcome.

Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs PA. Visit www.hollingerfuneralhome.com for condolences to the family.
