Herman Leer

Herman Bream Leer, 88, of York Springs, entered into God's eternal care on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the UPMC  Pinnacle Carlisle.  He was born on July 23, 1930 to the late William and Mabel Bream Leer.  He was the husband of the late Marian P. (Books) Leer, to whom he was married to for 59 years.

Herman attended the one room Miller's School in York Springs.  He was a lifetime farmer, working for Weiser Orchards, York Springs for 55 years.  He also worked for Hanover Canning Company, Wolf's Bus Lines and Paul's Garage.  He was a Boy Scout with the York Spring Troop during the 1940's.  He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, York Springs.  Herman was a lifetime member of the York Springs Fire Company No. 1. where he held many committee positions, but was best known for selling citrus and Christmas Trees with his twin brother, Harold.

Herman is survived by two children, Lora A. Kennedy (Wendell) and Lee A. Leer (Cindie), both of York Springs. Four grandchildren,  Maggie Hermansen(Kurt), Lance Kennedy (Alyson), Kaitlyn Leer (Trevor Yinger)and Madison Leer (Mason Hart), all of York Springs. Four great-grandchildren, Kylee, Kacie and Keith Hermansen and Lola Kennedy, all of York Springs.  One brother, Ivan Leer  of Carol Stream, IL, one sister, Miriam Watkins(Richard) of New Oxford, one sister-in-law, Charlotte Leer of York Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife, Herman was preceded in death by his siblings; Helen Hinkle (Richard), Lorene Smith (Howard), twin brother, Harold and sister-in-law, Shirley Leer.

Funeral services will be at 11:00AM on Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; 216 Main Street, York Springs with Deacon Nancy Gableand Rev. Beth Folkemer officiating.  A viewing will be held Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt Holly Springs, PA, 17065 and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in the Sunnyside Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church or York Springs Fire Company No. 1, 312 Main Street, York Springs, PA 17372.

Serving as pallbearers will be:  Lance Kennedy, Kurt Hermansen, Steve Weiser, Randy Lory, Trevor Yinger and Mason Hart.
