Gregory Bretzman

Gregory A. Bretzman, 58, of Mt. Holly Springs, PA passed away on Tuesday June 23rd at home surrounded by his loving family, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Carlisle on November 5, 1961 to Ivan R. and Judith A. (Long) Bretzman of Mt. Holly Springs.

Greg was a graduate of Carlisle High School, class of 1981. He worked as a mechanic at the family business, Bretzman's Garage, located in Mt. Holly Springs. He previously worked part time as a firefighter at the Carlisle Barracks and drove for Carlisle Fire and Rescue. His fire company memberships included Carlisle, Huntsdale, Bendersville and Mt. Holly Springs. Greg was a highly decorated firefighter, whose most recent position was the Dickinson Township Fire Chief. He was a member of Mt. Holly Springs American Legion Post 674. He loved to rebuild antique fire trucks and his most prized possession was his 1972 Seagrave Engine. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his childhood sweetheart, Christine M. (Mummert) Bretzman; his children, Holly M. Myers (Zachary) of Mt. Holly Springs and Justin “Bubba” Bretzman (Ashley) of Carlisle; grandchildren, Harper, Hudson and Hendrix Bretzman, all of Carlisle and Willow "Wilbur" Myers of Mt. Holly Springs. Also surviving is his brother, Daniel Bretzman of Mt. Holly Springs. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Bretzman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM in the St. Patrick Church Parish Activity Center, 85 Marsh Dr., Carlisle, PA 17015 with Rev. Daniel Murray and Rev. Richard L. I am so sorry for your loss.  For several years I have gotten my cars inspected at the Bretzman Garage.  Greg and his Dad always made you feel welcomed at the shop and the small chit chat was always a pleasure.   My deepest sympathy to the Bretzman family.  Wendy Kramer

Greg will be deeply missed by SO very many. I knew Greg since he was knee high to his dad. He fought many battles here on earth and HELPED so many, now it is time for him to help others in many ways, with no pain or sadness.  ALL of our thoughts and prays go out to the Bretzman family, and the MANY fire companies lucky enough to have Greg on their roasters, and fire family. He is watching over all of us when that pager goes off, and he will keep us all safe.
