Edna Hawbaker

February 1, 1933 — January 16, 2022

Edna L. Hawbaker, 88, of Mt. Holly Springs, passed away at home on the evening of January 16, 2022. She was born February 1, 1933, in Mt. Holly Springs to the late Lee M. and Kathleen E. (McLaughlin) Leib.

Edna met her future husband, Jack, as a young teen. They started their life adventure together when they married in 1953 and moved soon after to Alabama and then Georgia for his military service.

After high school, Edna worked as a proofreader for the (Carlisle) Sentinel. Before and after their two years in the South, Edna worked as a secretary at C.H. Masland & Sons in Carlisle and was secretary for the Carlisle Swim Club for many years. Her life’s work, though, was caring for others. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, volunteering in the kids’ schools and cheering them on at sporting events. She also taught Sunday school at the former Salem United Methodist Church in Mt. Holly Springs.

Edna was a voracious reader and, in her spare time, had either a book or crossword puzzle in her hand. She always looked forward to vacations in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and walking for miles every day on the sand. Her sense of humor will continue to make her family smile.

Edna is survived by her husband and best friend of 68 years, John (Jack) F. Hawbaker of Mt. Holly Springs; children Dayn Hawbaker of Newville, Lisa Mason (Jeffrey) of Mechanicsburg, and Jennifer Florer (Michael) of Gettysburg; grandchildren Jason, Christopher, Neil, and Sarah; and great-grandchildren Emily, Kaelyn, Hunter, and Leia. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Leib.

The family gives special thanks to the care team at Grane Hospice, whose dedication helped Edna remain in her home of 52 years. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.

To honor Edna’s wishes, there will be no public service. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs, Pa. Visit www.HollingerFuneralHome.com to offer online condolences to the family.
