Donald Longenecker

Donald G. Longenecker, 84, of Mechanicsburg, PA passed peacefully to heaven on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at his home and surrounded by his friends and family. He was born October 22, 1931 in Annville, PA to the late Eugene Longenecker and Carrie Bashore Longenecker.

Donald served a combined 42 years in the US Navy and the Army National Guard. He served his active Naval duty in the Korean War, and retired a chief warrant officer in the National Guard. He was a member of the Good News Church, American Legion Post 109  in Mechanicsburg. Donald was an avid fan of Penn State Football and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  But most of all, Donald's grandchildren were his life and brought him great joy and laughter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Shirley Ann Heitz Longenecker of Mechanicsburg; a son, Jeffrey Longenecker and his wife Jeana of Mechanicsburg; stepdaughter, Cheryl Middleton and husband Carl of FL; stepsons, Dennis Ditzler of Mechanicsburg and George Ditzler Jr. of Pottsville. Also surviving are three  grandchildren, Janae, Jaeden and Josie Longenecker; a half-brother, Cleon Bashore of Philadelphia plus five additional grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the Good News Church, 124 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 with Pastor Al Sones  officiating. A visitation  will be held on Thursday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with military honors at 1pm.
