Betty Weary

November 21, 1937 — August 15, 2016

Betty Jane Cornman Weary, 78, formerly of Carlisle and Grantham, PA passed away Monday, August 15, 2016 at her daughter's home in Elizabethtown, PA. She was born November 21, 1937 in Carlisle, PA to the late Chester Carl and Viola Mary King Cornman.

Betty was a member of the Carlisle High School Class of 1955 and was a former employee of Dauphin Deposit Bank.  She taught Sunday school, was a former head of the PTA, and a scout leader. Betty was intelligent, well read, and a skilled typist. An accomplished pianist, she inspired her family to love all forms and types of music. She also enjoyed blue birds, big blue skies, music, genealogy and letting others in the family know how they might be affected by new findings she heard about on TV.

Throughout her life, Betty was forced to contend with a variety of serious health challenges, especially rheumatoid arthritis. Her relationship with the Lord, her internal strength, discipline and endurance, along with steadfast care provided by doctors and nurses and especially by her loving family, allowed her to meet these challenges and lead a full life. This includes the enjoyment of two daughters, Wendy Gambini (wife of James) and Cindy Bower (wife of Larry); three grandchildren, Jonathan Gambini (husband of Norma), Lance Bower (husband of Carrie), Elizabeth Bower Smith (wife of Aaron); and five great-grandchildren, James (Jamie) and Simon Gambini, Carter Bower, and Ryan and Jocelyn Smith. Betty is also survived by her uncle, George L. King of Newville.

Interment will be in the North Middleton Church of God Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cumberland County Historical Society, 21 N. Pitt St., Carlisle, PA 17013. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Mt. Holly Springs, PA . Visit www.hollingerfuneralhome.com for condolences to the family.
