Bernice Janashak

Bernice L. Janashak, 99, of Carlisle, PA, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 in the Thornwald Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 17, 1922 to the late Norman M. and Lillie M. (March) Leidigh and was the widow of Conrad C. Janashak.

Bernice was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1939. She was employed by Peter J. Schweitzer Paper Company, Mr. Tichy at Pennsylvania Dutch Candies, where she was his secretary for 20 years, and The Naval Depot, Mechanicsburg, as a secretary. Bernice was an active member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boiling Springs, where she was a choir member, worship committee member, helped with vacation bible school, and actively participated in their quilting group. She was a member of the Boiling Springs VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a past president. Bernice had a great love for dogs, and all were special. She was very thoughtful and dedicated to family and friends by sending letters and cards (never missing a birthday), writing weekly to many WWII soldiers during the war and some after, giving handcrafted gifts and always home baked cookies at Christmas.

Surviving are her relatives, Carol A. Wagner of Carlisle, Ann Wagner of Carlisle, Andrew Wagner (Melissa) of New York, Donna S. Leidigh of Mt. Holly Springs, Michelle Roberts (Jim) of Mechanicsburg, Ronald Leidigh Jr. (Mary Ann) of Carlisle, Scott Leidigh (Tina) of Carlisle, Christopher Leidigh (Jennifer) of Mt. Holly Springs, numerous special nieces and nephews by marriage in New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Washington, and Wisconsin, 7 great-great nieces and nephews and 3 great-great-great nieces and nephews. Bernice was predeceased by relatives, Mary A. Kennedy, Paul M. Leidigh, Frances M. Leidigh and Ronald T. Leidigh.

Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family and burial will be in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery.
