Robert Lewis Rice, 91, of Dillsburg, PA, passed away at home on Friday, January 10, 2020. Born March 18, 1928 in Biglerville, PA to the late Ralph Edgar and Alveretta Margaret (Kluck) Rice, he was the widower of the late Jane Elizabeth (Thornton) Rice, who died September 23, 2001.
Active in athletics all his life, Bob played football and basketball for Biglerville High School, was a member of numerous slow and fast pitch softball teams, participated on several bowling teams and was an avid golfer, organizing the Senior Golfing at the Carlisle Country Club for many years. He served in the US Air Force for three years and eventually, in the 1960’s, helped found EUR, a computer data center in Mechanicsburg, from which he retired. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed coaching baseball, hunting, gardening and woodworking, specializing in fret work.
Bob is survived by his children, Carol Ann Wallace of Portland, OR, Pamela J. Kozick (Stephen III) of Dillsburg, PA , Rodney L. Rice of Dillsburg, PA and Robin L. Peuser (Richard) of Brookeville, MD; six grandchildren, James Wallace (Andrea), Michael Wallace, Melanie Lick (Andrew), Stephen R. Kozick, Paul B. Kozick (Cassandra), and Jane Peuser; and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Ronald Rice, Barb May, Joyce Wertz and Betty Culp. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford, Harold, Wallace, Donald and Ralph Jr. Rice and sisters, Kathryn Pitzer, Mary Carey, Evelyn Orner, Mildred Taylor and Ruth Starner.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Hollinger Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with the Rev. Richard L. Reese officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Bob was a dog lover and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Speranza Animal Rescue, 1216 Brandt Rd., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
